Home.  We all have one. Whether it is just one place, or there are many places, you feel most at home when you are with the people you love; the people that helped make you, well, you.  Growing up, I moved often.  Before I was eight, I had already lived in three houses, so it was difficult to feel comfortable in one place.  However, the people that helped make the moves more comfortable was my family.  They understand me, my likes, my dislikes, my fears, and my strengths. My family made me comfortable.

As I transition into a very unfamiliar stage in my life, I am learning how important it is to not lose sight of who you are.  A college is a place where you can find things that interest you, and find new opportunities for yourself.  However, college is also a place where your personality can change dramatically. You can often lose sight of yourself while trying to fit into new crowds, and change your personality just to make a good impression on others.  It is important to not lose sight of your family, your background, your roots.

In my photo, I utilized the aspect of moving away from home, but not losing sight of your roots.  I showed this symbolically by having the subject hold a suitcase to signify that they are leaving home.  I also had the subject holding a tree by the roots to show that they are bringing your roots with them as they leave home.  The subject is walking up the street to show that they are walking away from their home, not towards it.
