Influence

Artist Statement:

The mind of a child is extremely moldable. Children pick up the actions and the experiences of others in order to formulate their own ideas and dreams.  As a child, the most influential people in your life are your parents.

My dad changed the way I saw my future. He is a successful businessman.  Growing up, I was able to see his happiness through his work. He is hardworking, which has inspired me to pursue a future career in business in corporate public relations.

I chose a younger subject to portray a younger mind to help visualize how moldable the young mind is, and how much of an influence a parent has on their children's dreams and ideas.  The subject is looking at himself in the mirror, and instead of seeing his own reflection, he sees his father.  My subject, a ten year old boy, is looking in a mirror dreaming about his future. The boy sees himself with the same potential as his father. He wants to be as hardworking as his father is.

In order to make this artwork, I used two separate photographs. I had to use a tripod in order to ensure that the photo was taken at the same angle.  This was used because I could realistically place the subject and his father in the mirror so that he was looking back at him.  I enjoy the idea altering the actual photo in order to portray the aspect of the young boy dreaming about his future in hopes to be like his father.
