Artist Statement:
When you think of a “rebel”, you think of someone breaking rules, right? Someone who breaks rules to benefit themselves. Sometimes people that break rules are calling out to attention because they are not getting it from the people that they need it most from; like their parents. Another reason people become rebellious is peer pressure. Especially today in society, many break rules or do things they are not supposed to do in order to gain popularity or impress people.
However, sometimes, bad kids want to change their bad tendencies; they want to be good. Once you create a “bad boy” or “bad girl” impression on other people, it is difficult to convince people that you have changed. Even more often than not, people are afraid that they will lose their friends if they act differently than they do. Once you develop a bad personna, you are expected to keep this personna. However, people don’t always want to keep up with this personna. When people get in trouble for their actions, they seek to change. Change starts with the small good deeds like taking out the trash, holding the door or helping carry in groceries.
In my photo, I wanted to portray a “bad kid” doing good deeds. The good deed that the boy is doing is talking out the trash. This kid has a punk style with his black clothing and black eye makeup on his face. The boy may act out, but by taking out the trash, you can see that he is on the road to being a better person.
